Congratulations Owen!

Maltby Leisure Centre's swimmer of the year 2021!

After a challenging 2021 we wanted to round the year off with some good news stories.  We asked all of our Swimming Teachers to nominate those distinctive, very special swimmers who deserved a bit of recognition.

They were asked to identify swimmers on our lesson programmes (children and adults) who have displayed positive attitudes, unyielding determination or, have put in efforts over and above their peers.  They may have overcome personal adversity or achieved something unexpected or challenging.

Owen Addison - Maltby Leisure Centre Swimmer of the year 2021

Nominated by his teacher Rachael

'Owen joined one of our SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) swimming lessons at the end of June this year. Since then he has managed to stun, not only his Swim Teacher (Rachael) and his family, but all who have seen him working in the pool with his determination, enthusiasm, and resilience.

His Dad currently supports him in his class but he’s now working towards accessing swimming lessons independently. Owen and his family are looking forward to a pool holiday to show off his new skills!

Through all his hard work, he has managed to achieve not only his Stage 1, 2, and 3 Awards, but also his 5 and 10 metre Distance Awards in only 6 months! This is an amazing achievement for Owen, and is due to his attitude and willingness to have a go at anything.

Well done Owen! We’re all very proud of you!'
