Tennis lessons FAQs
Find out more about lessons restarting
What has changed?
We have been working really hard to ensure our cleaning, social distancing and coaching measures provide a safe environment for you and our staff. Coaches will be planning a phased, progressive, fun and inclusive return ensuring that tennis players’ physical health, fitness and mental health is considered. Some differences you may see are:
- Sharing of tennis equipment will be restricted
- Some kit / equipment will not be used if it cannot be suitably cleaned
- Coaches will maintain social distancing of players/coaches based on government guidance
- Tennis players may not be in the same groups as they were previously
- The layout of sessions may look different to keep everyone developing and safe
How will my mini-tots child manage without support?
To ensure you, your child and our coaches remain safe; teachers will not be able to physically support your child in any way. We ask that parents of all children attending mini-tots programmes stay on court to assist our coaches and ensure your child gets the most out of their lessons.
Will my class be at the same time/day?
In order to meet Government guidelines and those outlined by the new LTA age group guidelines, we’ve had to make adjustments to our tennis squad programme, and some lesson times and training ball colours have had to change. We have managed to keep disruption to a minimum and unless you hear from us individually, your course will resume at its usual day and time.
What do I need to do when I arrive?
Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before your lesson. You may be asked to wait to allow for the safe set up of programmes or exit of classes before yours.
On arriving, please make your way to the tennis lesson entry point for either indoor tennis Hall 1 or Hall 2. Our Placemakers will be available to point you in the right direction. Please ensure you follow social distancing guidelines at all times when in our facilities.
Only one adult can accompany each child to their lesson. Due to reduced capacities in the centre we are unable to accommodate siblings and larger family groups for spectating. Thank you for your co-operation.
Please arrive dressed and ready for your tennis squads. Changing rooms will not be available prior to the lesson.
Parents should follow the directions of the onsite teams to viewing/waiting areas. Please be at the collection point at the end of the lesson to collect your child and make your way to the exit. This may be different to where you entered so please follow the signs or the directions of our team.
Can I watch from the tennis balcony?
There are 38, 2 metre socially distanced spaces on the balcony specifically for our tennis squad programme- face coverings will be compulsory on the balcony. Priority will be given to those parents with under 8 players to help with getting to the toilet or any issues faced etc. We appreciate there may not be space for every parent to view lessons when we are full to capacity, we ask parents are understanding and wait in the car or off site during this eventuality to ensure players, parents and coaches are safe.
How will you clean equipment to ensure safety?
The coaching team will be sanitising all items on a session by session basis and will follow detailed cleaning procedures before, during and after use. We will not use any kit that cannot be cleaned fully and there will be hand sanitisation at every entrance / exit point. Courts will be cleaned regularly with our court cleaning system. During our tennis sessions, players will be given a 2 metre zone for their equipment and our sessions will be accommodate for 2 metre spacing where possible.
How do I know if my child is in the right class?
Please use the following link to assess if your child is in the right age group on the programme. The coaching team have assessed every single player and have put the players in a squad that should allow them to grow and develop best over the next 15 months. https://www.lta.org.uk/play-compete/competing/junior-tennis-competitions/competition-age-groups/
Can I borrow equipment?
For our squad programme children, we will have a limited number of racquets available for hire which will be sanitised before and after use by our team. Racquets will not be available to hire from reception for general play. If you have your own racquets, please bring them.
What about my payments?
As a reminder, all memberships were frozen free of charge on 20th March 2020 and they will resume when tennis lessons restart. You will receive an email from our payments partner, Harlands, telling you when your first payment will be and how much. Your first Direct Debit(s) will be adjusted to ensure you aren't charged for the period that the centre was closed.
If you’re not ready to return to tennis lessons and wish to cancel, please contact your bank directly to cancel your Direct Debit by the date identified in the email/letter you receive.
