Business Development

Over the last six months, we have been working hard to try and extend our existing leisure contracts, having formulised extensions at Wellingborough and Rushmoor, we have also agreed a three-year extension with Dorset which we hope to conclude shortly.

We have also submitted a tender for a new contract at Sevenoaks and continue to work on the re-tender opportunity of the Elmbridge contract which will be submitted early in the New Year.

Next year’s priorities will be to look again at extending profitable contracts where possible and we are preparing for the re-tendering of the Rushmoor contract. We will continue to bid on local authority contracts in a sustainable way, ensuring that any agreements with local authorities represent fair and equitable commercial terms.

On the 4^th December, a Ground Breaking Ceremony was held in Camberley where we are starting construction of a new leisure centre on behalf of Surrey Heath Borough Council. The new £22m facility has been designed to engage all sectors of the community and encourage more people to enjoy active and healthier lifestyles. This will be our second scheme where we have obtained the naming rights as we continue to build brand awareness; we are excited to see Places Leisure Camberley come to life over the next 18 months.

In other ‘new build’ news, the new £15m Bulmershe Leisure Centre, part of the Wokingham Contract, is nearing completion, with the plan to open in the Spring next year.

During 2020, we are looking forward to working in partnership more closely with the Places for People Group companies. Active Group collaboration provides further opportunities for us to be place makers and enables the sharing of best practice. Places Gym Edinburgh has paved the way for future collaboration on residential developments with further opportunities being explored with Group.
